About this deal

They're doing a children's show in the '60s that they think will only ever be aired once (maybe twice) so they probably just banged something together with papier mache. This Cybermat had black, teardrop-eyes, like most Cybermen, and an opening mouth with organic teeth.

She won’t be the last to make that choice; it becomes something of a recurring theme, still happening recently with Martha Jones and, to a lesser degree, Rory Williams.

Mondas is an interesting subject in its own right; it is not just a twin of Earth in the sense of sharing an orbit (though it did indeed share an orbit before its ejection), but indeed, it is identical to Earth, having matching continents and oceans, as can be seen in The Tenth Planet. He also claims to be about 450 Earth years old; given that this is an early statement with no motivation to lie, I like to think it is more reliable than most of his later estimates. This story of sentient seaweed is set in approximately 1975, as with The Web of Fear—not the only lateral move for the TARDIS, but certainly such things are rare. Whenever Cybermat attacks and isn't blocked, it gets +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is the number of attacking artifact creatures.

Meanwhile the Cybermen send Grash and the Cybermat to create another route for the Cybermen to reach the humans. Homing in on the brain's electrical activity these palm-sized cybernetic organisms incorporate sophisticated anti-surveillance capabilities. By some accounts, the Cybermats were created by Cybermen from bodies or body parts of humanoids not suitable for Cyber-conversion: pets, very young children and babies. The events of this story will be mentioned again in the audio Scorpius, though for the sake of spoilers I won’t elaborate on how. The described life-support system cables match those on Nerva Station in The Ark in Space, and are probably a standardized format.

The Cyber-tombs on Telos had tunnels for the Telosian Cybermats to move from the tombs to the main control rooms.

In addition to the obvious links to various Cyberman stories ( The Tenth Planet, The Tomb of the Cybermen, Revenge of the Cybermen, Earthshock, Attack of the Cybermen, Silver Nemesis), there’s a considerable amount of reference to The Keeper of Traken and Logopolis .We do reserve the right to refuse complaints or levy appropriate charges for issues raised after this period. Each part has been given an individual title, much like the early seasons of the classic series: “Surfacing”; “Necessary Force”; “Popping the Seals”; and “Shelter”. Some appear to be entirely robotic but others, such as 'Bitey' have features which suggest they are cyborgs. Hartley is injured, and Nyssa believes him to be dead—no pulse can be found—but he proves to be mostly unharmed.
