About this deal

This is the second in the Dahlia Lively series and it follows on from the first, so I would recommend that you read that one prior to this to fully understand the characters. The three Dahlias - Posy, Rosalind and Caro - are reunited on the set of the new Dahlia Lively movie, but under terrible circumstances. But things take a nightmare turn when a prop weapon is replaced with the real thing - with almost fatal consequences for her fellow Dahlia, Rosalind King. A famous model turned actress, Keira Reynolds-Yang, has just arrived and is receiving a great deal of attention.

The plot is well concieved, and has several layers - and there is a good cast of characters (literally, as the action is centred around the filming of a movie). Praise for A Very Lively Murder'A truly entertaining crime novel in the Three Dahlias series, very much in the Agatha Christie tradition, and I hope this series will continue' Shots Magazine'Will please those who liked the opening book' The Critic'Fiendeshly clever' Bucks Herald Praise for Katy Watson'An absolute treat of a read with all the ingredients of a vintage murder mystery: a country house, mysterious dead bodies and three actresses all keen to catch the killer.Whilst this follows on from the first book where we are introduced to the Three Dahlia’s this can be easily read as a standalone murder mystery novel. It can’t be too long before the rights have been snapped up and the 3 marvellous Dahlia’s stroll off the page and into the big (or little screen) for real. There wasn't a whole lot of character development with the Three Dahlias, although we learned a bit more about Rosalind. The book follows on from the first book in this series, The Three Dahlias and there are several references to the events in the previous book. Each of the three leads is given narrative focus at different points in the novel and Watson moves between these with ease, really building a remarkable amount of intrigue and tension.

Rosalind stared out of the front windows of Tŷ Gwyn, frowning, and Posy knew she wasn't seeing the wet, Welsh weather raging. She knew about what her husband did all those years ago and it became clear that justice will never be served. This time around our plucky heroines are off to Wales to shoot The Lady Detective, the new movie based on the Dahlia Lively series of mysteries as written by Lettice Davenport from the 1930s to 1960s. As the murders happen, motives are unclear and the author lays plenty of false trails for the three dahlias as well as the reader to follow. I loved the first book in the series, 'The Three Dahlias', so was pleased to be given access to an advanced copy of the second, so I could discover what the Three Dahlias were up to next. After a lot of pages of- nothing-happenings and Rosalind being threatened, but won't go to the police -later (which is around 168 pages or half mark of the book) we finally get the first body dropped. I also preferred the more frequent switching between the point of views of Posy, Rosalind and Caro rather than each character being a narrator for around a third each as in the first book.

The book has an underlying brooding feeling, aided and abetted by stormy weather and the setting in a country house in the Welsh landscape. This a great cosy murder mystery very much in the vain of Agatha Christie which i have always loved and now have a new favourite with Katy Watson. At the beginning we are in Caro's home, she is not part of the movie that's being made and feels left out and confused as to what to do next in life.Rosalind, the original Dahlia, Caro whose Dahlia was the star of the successful TV series, and Posy who is bringing Dahlia to a new generation. Just finished this book and I will need to rant - it will contain spoilers, so I'm hiding this post from existence.

Ex child star Posy Starling is finally filming her dream role - Dahlia Lively in The Lady Detective movie. The friendship that has formed despite the initial professional rivalry between the three leads is something that we need more of in not only literature but in life.
