About this deal

The joy of Heaven or Las Vegas is that you don’t need to know what Fraser is saying (even if the few discernible lyrics are immensely personal) to fall into a stupor. Using new masters created from high definition files transferred from the original analogue tapes, both albums are being pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl and come with download codes. There are many moments of sheer Cocteaus beauty and power, including the title track, with its great chorus. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

After signing with the British record label 4AD in 1982, they released their debut album Garlands later that year. Secondary copies sent out will be opened and inspected before being re-shipped to guarantee a non defective replacement.Raymonde and Guthrie would complete fully produced instrumentals, with the beats coming from Akai MPC 60 MK1 and EMU SP1200 drum machines, Fraser arriving later to add her enigmatic contributions. Heaven or Las Vegas followed in 1990, and the release was also via 4AD in the UK and Capitol in the US. Elizabeth Frazer pioneered the glossolalia technique to create a vast layered sonic template around the sounds of words where the words themselves seem to almost morph into each other, thus inventing her own language. Language - Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description. The working title of the song “Heaven or Las Vegas” was “Crispy Fiver Blue,” a joke name that Melody Maker had included in a lampoon of the band’s tendency toward eccentric titles. For me, This album along with 'Blue Bell Knoll' holds up better than much of their earlier albums probably because the heavy foreground bass that was so dominant on their earlier albums, was toned down to a reasonable level and by this time Robin Guthrie had invested in better drum technology. The album title was suggested by Lawrence (Hayward) of Denim/Felt, who liked the line from the song of the same name.

The album is noteworthy for the musical evolution that the band displayed at the time, with their work becoming more accessible.

Talking of Frou Frou, I was listening to a Frou Frou album ( Details ) the other day and noticed how much it owed, not only to Bjork, but also to the Cocteau's. One of the things that’s a stand-out in my memory was a little party we had just at the end, when all the mixing had been done and it had been sequenced—and there was a whole bunch of our mates over [to listen to it for the first time] and part of you is just looking at how they’re reacting… What’s the worst thing in the world? There's also a beautiful detached feeling of travel like on Road, River and Rail which will take your breath away such is the emotion they bring. The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the soprano vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often eschew any recognisable language. You’re playing somebody a new song and twenty seconds into it they start talking—about themselves, usually.
