About this deal

Alix is a podcast journalist who interviews successful and fascinating women about their lives and careers. There are a few minor twists that are somewhat predictable, but overall I enjoyed these characters and am glad to have found out what happened next in their lives. In fact, Jewell adds another character, Rachel, who is struggling to separate herself from her abusive ex-husband.

Libby’s boyfriend, journalist Miller Roe, has tracked down Phin’s location to Botswana, Africa, where Phin is a game reserve guide. Libby and Miller are preparing to fly to Botswana, with Henry insisting he tag along, when they receive word that Phin has left and disappeared into thin air again. He tells no one else and leaves in the middle of the night so Lucy, who is temporarily living with her two young children at Henry’s flat, won’t find out he is chasing after Phin. I genuinely did not engage with her very much as character when I was writing the first novel, especially compared to writing Lucy and Henry’s scenes which I found utterly consuming. In the beginning, I debated abandoning this, but wanted to see how Jewel would bring it all together.

I'm obviously an outlier (what's new) but really this book just fell a part in the last 25% and I couldn't in good conscience give it anything higher than a one.

But, it turns out that was unnecessary because the author seamlessly summarizes it in the first few chapters. The second most challenging aspect was not being able to tinker with the first book so that it would fit better with things I wanted to do with the second book! Rachel Rimmer has also received a shock—her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France. Do you think Phin is right to fully blame the adults, or do you think Henry is responsible for some of the harm that occurred in the house?Did the truth about the murders finally surface and reveal themselves by the conclusion of The Family Remains? This is going to sound weird, but even though this was an engrossing read, with top-notch writing, I don’t think a sequel was really needed. I love taking a dive into his psychology and really enjoyed the depth this book gave to his character.

All the new evidence pointed to a connection with the dead bodies found on the kitchen floor all those years ago. Why did you decide you wanted to set THE FAMILY REMAINS outside of the home, and what did it allow you to explore by not being as tied to one location? It’s been three years since “The Family Upstairs”, and it all came back to me as soon as I began reading “Remains”. This one is small and quiet by comparison about two women who live in the same corner of north London.I want to thank Najma Finlay, Penguin Random House and Lisa Jewell for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for my personal thoughts. There was something else discovered in the bag with the bones that connected that particular house with these bones.

Lucy Lamb, her brother Henry, and Phineas Thomsen, the son of the psychopathic control freak who invaded the Cheyenne Walk mansion, have been scattered by trauma. There are many characters, but Google helped refresh my memory regarding the plot/spoilers in the first book (that I read a few years ago). More than anyone else in that house Henry knew where the moral high ground should be and was constantly begging the grown-ups to try to find it” (407). Quick note: As a big fan who devours Double Double burgers weekly , I found a FALSE INFORMATION in the chapter 45!We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. But as the recording sessions go deeper and deeper into the truth of Josie’s life, Alix soon realizes that Josie is not as ordinary as she appears. The Family Remains takes place directly after the events from its predecessor, but also provides readers with alternate timelines and point of views to wrap up the next installment of a severely damaged family. They inform her that her husband, Michael, has been found dead, apparently murdered, in the cellar of his house in the South of France.
