About this deal

Mike Byrne grew up near Liverpool before moving to Wales to study Illustration at Glyndwr University. The inside front cover contains a list of focus phonemes and tricky words that are included in the book, so that they can be practised before the reading session. They will practice decoding the words in the book and will discuss the meaning of any new words before reading.

We aim for the majority of Y1 pupils to pass the phonics screening test (at least in line with national figures). By the time children leave us, they read confidently for meaning and regularly enjoy reading for pleasure. Pupils in EY and KS1 are given reading books each week, which directly link to the phonics sounds they are being taught so that phonics knowledge is consolidated. Pupils are able to engage in discussions about plots and characters, recommend a book to a peer and evaluate an author's use of language and the impact this has on the reader. These children urgently need to catch up, so the gap between themselves and their peers does not widen.

At Wooburn Green, we understand that being able to read is the most crucial skill that we can teach our children as without it they will find it increasingly difficult to access other areas of the curriculum and their life chances will be significantly reduced. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Developed in collaboration with two English Hubs, Wandle Learning Trust and Little Sutton Primary School the programme is a DFE Validated SSP. The Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme is designed to ensure that no child is left behind and where teachers think that this may be the case, children will be supported with Little Wandle’s daily keep up or catch up in Reception and Year 1, or Rapid Catch up in Year 2 and Key Stage 2. We offer a 20% built-in discount and free protective jackets to ensure your new books withstand the rigours of the home-school book band programme for as long as possible.

In the Spring Term, children will progress through Phase 3 of the programme, learning many new phonemes and graphemes including digraphs (2 letters making 1 sound, and trigraphs, 3 letters making 1 sound). with any child new to the school in Reception and Year 1 to quickly identify any gaps in their phonic knowledge and plan and provide appropriate extra teaching. Weekly content grids, lesson templates and ‘How to’ videos all help to ensure that all adults maintain consistency in their teaching and this is monitored half termly by the Reading Leader and SLT so that any misconceptions or inconsistencies can be rectified as soon as possible.I’d agree with Biff, Chip and Kipper era books just being less words, some of the words in even the easiest bands of these books aren’t easy at all! This is why we teach reading through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, which is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme. The books feature an exciting mix of stories and non-fiction to foster a love of reading in all children.

Get ready to have fun on the track as you learn about go-karts and the rules of the track in this non-fiction book. It comprises of classroom resources to support the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised SSP and a range of phonic readers that together provide a consistent and highly effective approach to teaching phonics.Reading notes within the book provide practical support for reading with children, including a list of all the sounds and words that the book will cover. Where this is the case, we will support these children by using the Little Wandle Rapid Catch Up Scheme.

He began his career as a designer for a greeting card company and then became a studio manager for a licensed stationery designer before leaving to fulfil his dream of illustrating children's books. These fully decodable readers support the DfE validated SSP programme at Phase 4 of Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised.

Every teacher in our school has been trained to teach reading, so we have the same expectations of progress. Older children can exit the Rapid Catch-up programme when they read the final fluency assessment at 90+ words per minute. Reading skills are taught discretely five times a week in 30-minute sessions for all pupils in both KS1 and KS2. By the end of Pre-School, children are well prepared to begin learning grapheme-phoneme correspondences (GPCs) and blending in Reception. By the end of the Autumn Term, we aim for all children to be able to blend to read words with Phase 2 sounds.
