About this deal

Susan Hampshire, who had set pulses racing in the 1960s in The Forsyte Saga, played MacDonald matriarch Molly. Archie's plan for a Glenbogle Tourist Attraction is rejected by local councillor Edith, Hector is forced to go and charm her. The season begins with: Ever since Meg passed away, Golly has been taking care of baby Cameron as a single parent, with the help of his daughter, Jess… What await ahead?

Archie meets the local school headteacher, Katrina Finlay, with whom he begins a complicated friendship. I offer no apologies as this series is the sort of purchase to be made by someone familiar with the series rather than a blind purchase. In the UK, series 1, 2, and 7 were released in one set and series 3–6 in two sets - each set containing two discs.Ratings hit an all-time low in 2004, and BBC bosses axed the show, but promised that they would bring back many of the cast from earlier series for a fantastic series finale. Paul takes care of 'The Stags', the Glenbogle football team who are set to play their annual football match against their bitter rivals.

Amy, Donald, Iona and Ewan help Paul impress Viktor and his wife Catriona, while Golly hurts his back and Molly comes to his aid. With the help, and sometimes hinderance, of his family and faithful retainers he works to get the noble estate back on its feet .

The BBC box-set only featured a making-of show titled The Last Monarch, which was broadcast on BBC Scotland before the series finale on 23 October 2005. Of course, television has that advantage over film just based on length of time in which to flesh out the characters, so that's no surprise. A draughty old pile in the Balmoral style, the laird had not only to contend with shoring up the place, but maintaining the cottages of the community who relied on Glenbogle for their living. Molly helps Jess train for a competition for the glen's best ghillie, as Jess tries to show Golly how much she is trying to impress him.

The estate is put up for sale and everyone makes arrangements for new homes as Paul and Golly become lovesick and the strength of Glenbogle's residents is put to the test. And then there are a bunch of significant characters that appear a few times and/or enter the show as regulars in later seasons. But when Golly has a back injury and Molly rushes to his aid, Paul finds himself short staffed and strapped for cash. This is because the show is going off Netflix on February 9th *sniffle*, so I knew there was no way I'd be able to squeeze watched 26 episodes of a very feelsy show into a mere couple of weeks. There are interviews with the cast and crew including Richard Briers, Susan Hampshire, Alistair Mackenzie, Hamish Clark, Lloyd Owen, Tom Baker, etc.

Paul finds his old army officer is leading the investigation of the plane, while Golly consoles Molly after she is diagnosed with a heart condition. Stuart plans to renovate the mountain Ben Bogle into a holiday village; Archie, Hector and Golly rebel against this. Ewan drowns his sorrows at the pub and is arrested by the police after finding his father is cheating on his mum. Created by Michael Chaplin, based on the Highland novels of Sir Compton MacKenzie (he of Whisky Galore), the show was never intended to be high drama and as such was ideal Sunday evening fodder for the family to curl up watching.
