About this deal

Palate: Big, juicy malt that has a fascinating interplay between savoury and sweet. The savoury wins out – that glorious meatiness is the last man standing.

By using the Service, and by creating an account you represent, warrant and confirm that you are of legal age.Craigellachie is making a bit of noise right now with the global release of its 51yo – a whisky that will be far more accessible than you might at first think, but more about that in a moment. In the meantime, let’s set the scene… Craigellachie’s stillhouse The Craigellachie distillery was built in 1891 by Craigellachie Distillery Co. Limited, a group of blenders and merchants led by Alexander Edward. Two years later, it was incorporated as a limited company and in 1896 it was reconstructed as Craigellachie-Glenlivet Distillery Ltd. [1]

To promote the benefit of the Craigellachie and environs without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, by association the inhabitants, voluntary organisations and local authorities in a common effort to advance the education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for said inhabitants. Nose: Candy floss (cotton candy for our American readers!), toasted grain bread, and boozy soaked fruits. The second form of sulphur comes from barley and is naturally produced during the whisky-making process. If you cut down the amount of copper available to spirit vapour the higher the sulphur levels in the new make will be. What appears to not have been understood is that this sulphur disappears in time. It acts as a marker;an indication that once its cloak has been lifted a spirit will emerge either as meaty (Cragganmore, Mortlach, Benrinnes) or fragrant (Glenkinchie, Speyburn, Balblair, AnCnoc, and Craigellachie) In other words, sulphur can be desirable. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

Comments: It’s hard not to be seduced by the notably darker colour on offer here – again, leading one to think that there’s a higher proportion of sherry casks in the mix. A truly delicious whisky that is approaching old age but still punching with the vibrancy and spirit-led flavour of youth. Long with big notes of fruit, woody char and vanilla that moves to malt, earth and apricots on it’s way out.

In 1925 the Distillery Company Limited was formed by John Walker & Co, James Buchanan & Co. and John Dewar & Sons and two years later they bought White Horse Distillers. History

Craigellachie 13 is the second release, and my favorite, of the Last Great Malts. The first being the Aberfeldy 12 that I reviewed, and enjoyed, yesterday. This murky little dram with the name like a monster straight out of Tolkien’s notebook magically captures both the light and dark aspects of Speyside. Come and stay in one of the most beautiful areas in the northeast of Scotland. The Speyside region has options that suit all. The Highlander Inn is another hotel in Craigellachie and their bar offers a great range of whiskies. The Craigellachie 13 year old is permeated with nice aromas of citrus, mandarin and orange. A sweet and a bit dry palate brings up fig and a hint of cinnamon. A long and clear finish preserves the citrus notes.
