The Adidas Adipower 2 is one of the better-looking weightlifting shoes, especially compared to those that look bland like the Nike Romaleos 2s. That shouldn’t be too surprising, though––Adidas makes sporty looking shoes because, well, they make sports shoes. For context, I Hatfield squatted 470 lbs for a triple and didn’t have any issues with this model’s stability. I think most lifters who are investing in this shoe for squats, weightlifting, and accessory exercises won’t have issues with compression. The signature three stripes are enlarged to emphasize the branding but not in an “in your face” way. Putting this shoe and the Powerlift 4 side-by-side, I can’t help but notice how similar their styles are. Since this model has a higher price point, I think it’s important to ensure that this model’s performance aligns well with your training needs before investing.

Honestly, I haven’t been that impressed with that Adidas Adipower 3, especially for their increased price. I feel as though most lifters, more specifically beginners, will get just as much performance benefit with something like an Adidas Powerlift 5 or Reebok Lifter PR II. The effective heel height of the Adidas AdiPower’sis .75 inches or 20.1millimeters, which makes this model similar to other popular lifters. A great pair of weightlifting shoes needs to be comfortable, durable, look good, and provide stability to the wearer to be worth the price tag that’s put on them. In my Adidas Adipower 2 review, I’ll break down whether these redesigned classics meet that criteria, who should give them a shot and who should pass on them.For reference, I wear a 10 in women’s shoes and I got the Power Perfect’s in an 8.5. I’ve had no issues with the fit. But like the Adipowers, I have to tighten the laces a lot to get the snugness that I like in a lifting shoe. This is a common heel height for lifting shoes because it allows most lifters to get into the proper position for squats, cleans, and snatches. Adipower 2 The strap bears a full fabric construction free of any leather reinforcements. It’s a hook-and-loop mechanism where the strap runs through a steel loop.

The upper is made from a combination of mesh and synthetic leather. This adds a bit of structure to the shoe while still keeping it breathable. Despite its tougher material, it’s comfortable to wear even when training in a hot environment. The Winner: Power Perfect III The Powerlift 4 is one of the few true-to-size weightlifting shoes on the market. This means you can safely wear them in your normal size without any fitting issues. The Winner: Tie Comfortability: With the lightweight textile upper, the Adipowers are breathable and comfortable so you can easily wear them in the gym for a couple of hours. Despite running a little long, I still think most lifters and athletes should go true to size in this model due to the narrowness of this shoe. If you have wide feet, I’d avoid investing in this Adipower 3. Both of these shoes share a 22mm TPU heel, creating a stable lifting experience. They also each have a single midfoot strap. However, the Legacy Lifter 3 strap has much less velcro surface area, making it harder for some to get tight through the midfoot. This is especially true for high-arched lifters.

The Adidas Adipower 2 is made from Primegreen, a recycled fabric that contains no new plastic or polyester, and 50% of the upper mesh is made from recycled content as well. The material doesn’t result in any substantial difference when it comes to performance or functionality, but it’s nice to see companies take steps to reduce their carbon footprint.

The construction of a lifting shoe can tell you a lot about how it will perform. This material is hands-down the gold standard of weightlifting shoes because it doesn’t compress under the heaviest weights. Just like the majority of weightlifting shoes, the Adipower 2 features a single support strap over the midfoot area. And again, this is a feature that Adidas copied from the original version. The Adipower Weightlifting 2 is a specialist weightlifting shoe designed for Olympic Lifting and Powerlifting. This includes snatch, clean and jerk, deadlifts, squats and bench press. No longer the reserve of specialist gyms, these sports are gaining more and more mass appeal, and can also supplement your running training. If you're currently wearing a running trainer to lift in, we strongly recommend you look into a more specialist shoe that offers stability and support in the right places.
