Above all, don’t be afraid to be “wrong” or to sound stupid. The best thing to do is to just consider what jumps out most at you when you smell or taste a spirit. Once you’ve allowed yourself to do that, and got past the mental “I don’t know how to do this” barrier, you’ll find that it all comes naturally.

Crafted from “the finest oak casks” of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry, this release doesn’t seem to have the additional sherry finish that it previously had. The old ‘Romach 10 was a marriage of 80% ex-Bourbon and 20% ex-Sherry casks that spent 12 months finishing in ex-Oloroso casks.

Benromach 10 is a fantastic starting point for those who want to try smoky whiskies. It has the style of a classic and traditional whisky, so it won’t disappoint those whisky lovers, but it also allows you to discover new nuances and details. This is one of those basics to have at home, perfect for a dram at any time. Peated to 12-14ppm, so a little less than Highland Park, then matured in 80% ex-bourbon and 20% ex-sherry and married for the tenth year in sherry casks. The following indicators should be taken as only a guide and not a set of hard and fast rules. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. A+: A masterpiece and one of the ten best whiskeys of its type. Above five stars. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products.

Even though we usually identify peated whiskies with Islay, not so long ago there was a bit of peat smoke in lots of whiskies, including Speyside. That is why it isn’t so strange to find a slightly smoky touch in Johnnie Walker, the best-selling blended scotch. Benromach 10 is the starting point in the Benromach range. It is aged mostly in ex-bourbon American oak barrels and some Sherry barrels for 9 years. Later on, it is married for a year more in Sherry barrels. It is bottled at 43% abv. A beautifully balanced combination of bourbon casks and Oloroso sherry casks with a slightly peated spirit. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. Bottled at a respectable 57% ABV non-chill filtered and non-colored this robust whisky is still friendly and accesible to anyone with patience yet it respects the purist, the spirit and the traditions too.

You must slow down with this whisky and not come into the event with huge expectations, and then, it will surpass your expectations interestingly enough. B and B-: Good and above average. The best of the mass market whiskeys fit in this category, as do the bulk of the premium brands. A B- is three stars. It has enough body to take some water and opens up with a few drops, patience is rewarded with this one.
