Other EU nationals and associated groups, starting a course of study in 24/25 are not eligible to apply to SAAS for tuition fee support. Your second year is entirely practical, and you will spend the bulk of your time in the workshops working on the School's drama and opera productions. You will also spend half a term working in one of the areas you studied in Year One Associated Studies. Year Three Production consists of both the BA Production Arts and Design and the BA Production Technology and Management programmes. Production students will work very closely with each other in the classroom and on RCS productions. The new Scenic Construction course was set up to fill a gap for qualified highly skilled construction workers in both theatre, and the booming Film and TV industry in Wales, which the College plays a big part in feeding. Please note that we make lower offers (including unconditional) to exceptional candidates and those who have alternative or prior experience to offer. All candidates invited to interview are asked to bring a portfolio. Interview and portfolio are key factors in determining which applicants are accepted on to the course. This is an optional work placement/international study module. Where this option is selected through consultation with student and module tutor, up to two compulsory modules can be replaced. You will build specific elements of scenery, working to a professional designer’s specifications and working closely with technicians to plan how scenery might be rigged to fit within either a studio or a main house space. Your skills will be further developed towards a level appropriate to professional work. You will be given experiences that simulate professional contexts. Modules you will undertake during year 2 include but are not limited to:You will exploretopics such as scenic construction, drawing, design, lighting, sound, scenic art plus much more. Alternatively, you can focus on developing skills as part of the team as a third year Prop Maker, Scenic Artist or Scenic Carpenter. You may continue with your elective study for six weeks or take on the role of Production Manager. There is a focus on nurturing and training you as a professional practitioner, to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of current working practices within the creative industries. This is achieved through a variety of skills-based practical modules that use industry professionals throughout the programme. The skills and training embedded in the programme will equip you for a portfolio career in a variety of design, scenic arts, self-employment and entrepreneurship roles.
