About this deal

The Missing Sister by by Dinah Jefferies is the story of Belle who travels to Burma to become a night club singer in the 1930s. She is also looking for her sister who was taken from the family home as a baby when her parents lived in Burma many years ago.

They almost got themselves expelled.” Lily pointed out and didn’t add about Sirius almost getting Severus killed, “anyway, we are almost there.” I will leave you two alone. Don’t be too late. You know it’s dangerous at night and James will be worried.”

The Missing Sister is another excellent historical fiction novel by this extremely talented author. I have loved everything Dinah Jefferies has written, and this one didn’t disappoint. Strong characters, mystery, intrigue and danger all blended with fascinating details of Burma and surrounds. Always well written, I have no hesitation in highly recommending The Missing Sister to fans of historical fiction. Inspired by the Seven Sisters of the Pleiades star constellation, the series is based on Greek myth. Each of the sisters is brought from legend to the modern world: Maia the nurturer, Ally the adventurer, Star the dreamer, CeCe the artist, Tiggy the spiritual one and Electra the rebel. But there is a missing seventh sister, Merope . . . A powerful story of love and loss that is utterly captivating. I was drawn deep into the world of Malaya and England in the 1950s in this intense exploration of what it means to love. Beautifully written and wonderfully atmospheric, Dinah Jefferies skilfully captures this fragile moment of history in a complex and thrilling tale. THE SEPARATION is a gripping and intelligent read.'

Lily didn’t think that the hardest thing she had to do was say goodbye to him. She knew he understood because he sat close to her on the bed and held her in a hug. Lily cried even harder, shaking under his arms while Severus soothed her. Finally I felt there was no sophistication in the characters: everyone was deemed good or bad, with no inbetween. I've never liked a book that is so clear cut. It's not real. Similarly, the protagonist seemed as if she were quite free from imperfection and there was little to draw the reader to her. In fact, I would say the characters did little to add to the story- the same can be said of the romance. With romances, in historical fiction, I've often thought they were added just for the sake of the genre. But I've never felt that so strongly until I read this book!

The owl appeared late at night and left just as suddenly, he recognised the handwriting immediately and ripped open the envelope. In doing so, they will slowly unearth a story of love, strength and sacrifice that began almost one hundred years ago, as other brave young women risk everything to change the world around them. She is looking for clues that may explain the disappearance of her parents’ baby daughter, Elvira, from January 1911. Rašydama šią knygą autorė keliavo po Birmą, savo patyrimus sudėjo į kūrinį. Aprašomas jos gražus skridimas oro balionu. Near the end of the story I cried. Not just a few tears wending their way down my face but big ugly tears with sobs. Perfect. In doing so, they will slowly unearth a story of love, strength and sacrifice that began almost one hundred years ago, as other brave young women risked everything to change the world around them . . . But now that both of her parents are dead, going through their personal things, she discovered a newspaper clipping describing the day Elvira, only 3 weeks old at the time, vanished from the family garden in Rangoon.
