This bedtime story is about good versus bad and how good people can be rewarded for their kindness. Despite being treated poorly by her stepfamily, she continues to be a kind and caring person. A perfect story for bedtimes. Cinderella (1950), a Walt Disney animated feature released on 15 February 1950, now considered one of Disney's classics as well as the most well-known film adaptation, including incorporating the titular character as a Disney Princess and its franchise.

Once there was a gentleman who married, for his second wife, the proudest and most haughty woman that was ever seen. She had, by a former husband, two daughters of her own, who were, indeed, exactly like her in all things. He had likewise, by another wife, a young daughter, but of unparalleled goodness and sweetness of temper, which she took from her mother, who was the best creature in the world. And when he reached home he gave to the step-daughters what they had wished for, and to Cinderella he gave the hazel-twig. She thanked him, and went to her mother’s grave, and planted this twig there, weeping so bitterly that the tears fell upon it and watered it, and it flourished and became a fine tree. Cinderella went to see it three times a day, and wept and prayed, and each time a white bird rose up from the tree, and if she uttered any wish the bird brought her whatever she had wished for. All heads turned. Who was that lovely maiden stepping down the stairs? She held her head tall and looked as if she belonged. Remake of the 1957 and 1965 TV films. Several different variants of the story appear in the medieval One Thousand and One Nights, also known as the Arabian Nights, including "The Second Shaykh's Story", "The Eldest Lady's Tale" and "Abdallah ibn Fadil and His Brothers", all dealing with the theme of a younger sibling harassed by two jealous elders. In some of these, the siblings are female, while in others, they are male. One of the tales, "Judar and His Brethren", departs from the happy endings of previous variants and reworks the plot to give it a tragic ending instead, with the younger brother being poisoned by his elder brothers. [34] Literary versions [ edit ] Italian author Giambattista Basile wrote the first literary version of the story. In front of her stood the same round little man that had announced The Royal Ball—the same two knights behind him as before.

He thought she was more charming than before, and, a few days after, married her. Cinderella, who was no less good than beautiful, gave her two sisters lodgings in the palace, and that very same day matched them with two great lords of the court. In front of her stood a small, rotund man dressed in royal regalia, carrying an important looking scroll. Behind him stood two armoured knights flying flags embossed with the King’s Arms. She simply continued with her duties in the hope that one day—when she was older—she would escape and live the wonderful life of which she had often dreamed. She was made to work from dawn until dusk without a single penny in return for her long-suffering hardship.
